Built in 1900, J Farms was originally a royal granary for the Maharaja's vast paddy fields in Girhola. At that time, it was managed by the village headman, while royal officials from Kanker visited only occasionally. On special occasions, when the Maharaja traveled through on his way to hunting expeditions in the forests of Badbhum, the farm would come alive with celebration — villagers gathered, music played, and the air filled with festivity.
After independence, the property returned to the Royal Family of Kanker. Today, J Farms has been thoughtfully opened to visitors as part of our effort to share the authentic rural lifestyle of Chhattisgarh. Staying here offers a rare opportunity to experience a slice of India that remains largely untouched by mass tourism.
Known in the past as Raja Dhaba — the King's Barn — the farm is now called J Farm, named after your hosts, Jolly and Jai. Both remain deeply connected to the land, often personally supervising cultivation in the fields. Jolly, in particular, is closely involved in village welfare, respected by locals not just as a member of the royal family but as a friend and benefactor.
